This tutorial marks the last week of our  Instagram posts featuring Jacquie's Favorites. Have you been following along and entering to win? We've used the warm half of Jacquie's Favorites to create the Spicy Squares table runner. These blocks are simple to make and have such a graphic punch! 

Spicy Squares Table Runner Tutorial: 
Spicy Squares Runner
Finished Runner Size: 48" x 18"
Finished Block Size: 6" square

You'll Need:
1 fat quarter each:
121-003 Pencil Yellow
121-054 Tangerine
121-057 Burnt Sienna
121-066 Lipstick
121-068 Rosebud
121-073 Sangria
121-079 Raspberry
121-134 Tomato

1/3 yard 121-000 White
1/3 yard 121-010 Silver
3/8 yard binding fabric
1 yard backing fabric
22" x 52" piece of batting

Cutting:
From the Pencil Yellow:
(1) 5-1/2" x WOF strip; subcut into (6) 2-1/2" x 5-1/2" pieces
(2) 2-1/2" x WOF strips: subcut into (12) 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" pieces
(2) 1-1/2" x WOF strips; subcut into (6) 1-1/2" x 5-1/2" pieces

From the Tangerine:
(1) 5-1/2" x WOF strip; subcut into (12) 1-1/2" x 5-1/2" pieces
(1) 3-1/2" x WOF strip; subcut into (12) 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" pieces

From the Burnt Sienna:
(1) 3-1/2" x WOF strip; subcut into (6) 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" pieces

From the Lipstick: 
(2) 4-1/2" x WOF strips; subcut into (12) 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" pieces
(1) 5-1/2" x WOF strip; subcut into (12) 1" x 5-1/2" pieces

From the Rosebud:
(2) 3-1/2" x WOF strips; subcut into (6) 3-1/2" squares

From the Sangria: 
(1) 5-1/2" x WOF strips; subcut into (6) 2-1/2" x 5-1/2" pieces
(2) 2-1/2" x WOF strips; subcut into (6) 2-1/2" squares and (6) 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" pieces
(2) 1-1/2" x WOF strips; subcut into (6) 1-1/2" x 5-1/2" pieces

From the Raspberry:
(2) 1-1/2" x WOF strips; subcut into (6) 1-1/2" x 4-1/2" pieces

From the Tomato: 
(1) 2-1/2" x WOF strips; subcut into (6) 2-1/2" squares

From the binding fabric:
(4) 2-1/4" x WOF strips


Make the Runner: 
Step 1 To make Block A, lay out (1) 3-1/2" Rosebud square, (2) 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" Tangerine pieces, and (2) 1-1/2" x 5-1/2" Tangerine pieces as shown.

Step 2 Sew the 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" Tangerine pieces to opposite sides of the 3-1/2" Rosebud square, and then sew the 1-1/2" x 5-1/2" Tangerine piece to the top and bottom. Make a total of (6) A blocks.  Spicy Square tutorial

Step 3 To make a B block, lay out (1) 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" Burnt Sienna piece, (2) 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" Pencil Yellow pieces, and (2) 1-1/2" x 5-1/2" Pencil Yellow pieces as shown.

Step 4 Sew the 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" Pencil Yellow pieces to opposite short sides of the 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" Burnt Sienna piece. Sew 1-1/2" x 5-1/2" Pencil Yellow pieces to the top and bottom. Make a total of (6) B blocks.

Step 5 To make a C block lay out (1) 1-1/2" x 4-1/2" Raspberry piece, (2) 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" Lipstick pieces, and (2) 1" x 5-1/2" Lipstick pieces as shown. Spicy Square tutorial

Step 6 Sew 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" Lipstick pieces lengthwise to opposite sides of (1) 1-1/2" x 4-1/2" Raspberry piece. Sew 1" x 5-1/2" Lipstick pieces to the top and bottom. Make a total of (6) C blocks. Spicy Square tutorial

Step 7 To make a D block, lay out (1) 2-1/2" Tomato square, (1) 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" Sangria piece, (1) 2-1/2" Sangria square, (1) 1-1/2" x 5-1/2" Sangria piece, and (1) 2-1/2" x 5-1/2" Sangria piece. Spicy Square tutorial

Step 8 Sew the 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" Sangria piece and 2-1/2" Sangria square to opposite sides of the 2-1/2" Tomato square. Sew the 2-1/2" x 5-1/2" Sangria piece to the top and the 1-1/2" x 5-1/2" Sangria piece to the bottom. Make a total of (6) D blocks. Spicy Square tutorial

You should now have (24) 5-1/2" square blocks.

Step 9 Lay out the blocks into (3) rows of (8) blocks each as shown. You'll be adding a White frame or Silver frame to alternating blocks. Tip: Pay attention to the orientation of each block as you add the strips and then position it back on your design wall.

Step 10 Sew 1" x 5-1/2" White strips to opposite sides of 12 blocks. Sew 1" x 6-1/2" White strips to the top and bottom.  Tip: White strips are added to sides first and then top/bottom, while Silver strips are added to top/bottom first and then sides--this eliminates any bulk issues when the blocks are joined together. Spicy Square tutorial
The finished White framed block measures 6-1/2" square.

Step 11  Sew 1" x 5-1/2" Silver strips to the top and bottom of 12 blocks. Sew 1" x 6-1/2" White strips to the sides. Spicy Square tutorial

Step 12 Sew the blocks together into rows and join the rows to complete the runner top as shown.

Step 13 Layer the backing right side down, batting, and runner top right side up. Baste the layers and quilt as desired. Trim backing even with runner top.

Step 14 Use the (4) 2-1/4” x WOF binding strips to bind the quilt.
