Shibori Dye 120-21443

Paintbrush Studio Fabrics

Description

Fiber artist and quilt designer Kim Eichler-Messmer brings Japanese traditions into the modern age with Shibori Dye. Shibori is the Japanese word for different methods of creating patterns on cloth by shaping and securing fabric before dyeing it in indigo. This collection is the best of both worlds – traditional dyeing techniques paired with modern fabric printing! These patterns are available in the traditional indigo, as well as striking black and soft coral colorways. Use these bold patterns for trend-worthy home décor projects like DIY pillows, curtains, or kitchen accessories, or experiment with quilting or sewing your own clothes with them!

About the Artist

Kim Eichler-Messmer grew up in Iowa where she spent as much of her free time outside as she could. Her dad taught her how to sew when she was 10 and they made a quilt together out of their old shirts. In college she studied engineering, Spanish, Portuguese, drawing, and printmaking before realizing her love of textiles in a yardage screen printing class. She later earned an MFA in textiles and is now an Associate Professor in the Fiber department at the Kansas City Art Institute where she teaches surface design, natural dye, and quilting.
